Today we headed to Buffalo for the renal scan on Zoe’s kidneys. I have to say I had a very impatient day, since waiting almost 2 months since her last appointment. Her appointment was at 10:15 and they got us right in which was nice, after a problem with her name. They had it down as “Zoey” and not “Zoe” so we had to go through registration again. I told the lady this isn’t my fault, I always spell her name out, and that is how her name is on our insurance card. It was no big deal. We went into the room to start the procedure and Zoe did really well, for the first time ever. She saw the needle and cried a bit but that was it. They put the radioactive medicine into her vein and we had to come back in an hour for the scan. Zoe loved laying on it, and didn’t even care they strapped her down with the “seatbelts”. She did very well. After that we headed to the urologist, our appointment was at 1:00. We signed in, and 2:00 hit and I said to them, well did you forget about us. We were the first family in the waiting room at 12:55 and everyone has been in before us. Oh no they said, there was an emergency. Ok no problem. We started chatting with another mom, and her 16 year old daughter who has the same problems as Zoe. They never found hers until she was 14. She has had 3 surgeries, and nothing is fixing hers. Her right kidney only has 12% working. It’s sad. I told the girl, I was sorry. I said this would have been still been going on with Zoe but I put my foot down, and told them to find out what is wrong with her. The 16 year old girl said that is awesome, because you don’t know how horrible I feel. So after this conversation I was a little nervous.
Zoe was so hungry and getting fussy now, so at 2:15 I walked back up as others were going in still, but not us almost 1.5 hours later. I said please reschedule us in March when we come back for her MRI. I am not making my daughter wait another minute. We were obviously forgotten about. I told the girl I though Children’s Hospital was better than this. What do you know, they called us in. All for a 3 minute chat. This chat is the words I have been waiting for though….
Zoe’s kidneys are normal and have NO SIGNS of kidney damage! YIPPPPPEEEEEE!!! She will still be taking her antibiotics for life or until she outgrows the urinary reflux. We go back in 18 months to see if she is outgrowing the urinary reflux. One test down and one more to go.
Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers since finding out about this. You have all been amazing…our family cannot thank you enough, and neither can this cute little face.
