Honeywell HPA-150 True HEPA Tower Allergen Remover Review

I have discussed my husband’s severe allergies numerous times on my blog and suggestions of what I do to help alleviate his symptoms.  I try to keep our home as dust-free as possible but with home remodeling projects, this is a non-stop ordeal.   We have been told a new mattress may help so that is in the works and we also have small air purifiers in two rooms of our home.  Did you know that on average one person takes 900 breaths per hour or 21,000 per day!  Imagine what we are breathing in with toxins in the air not to mention what is inside our home since we are renovating a home that is 100 years old.

Recent surveys by Honeywell Air Purifiers found that only 1/3 of people are thinking about what’s in their home air.  The EPA has found that VOC levels on average are 2-5 times higher indoors than outdoors. To compound that, certain activities like paint stripping can elevate VOC levels by 1,000.  This is frightening for our family since we are remodeling.

Luckily, Honeywell, the makers of  high quality products for homes such as air purifiers, thermostats, fans and humidifiers to name a few, is helping families keep the air clean in their homes with the Honeywell True HEPA Tower Allergen Remover Air Purifier.  This allergen remover is tower style which sits on the floor and has an attractive design.  When it arrives and you remove the tower from the box there is limited setup which is always nice.  Included are True-HEPA filters which are wrapped for protection.  Users have to remove the grille to place the filters in the air purifier.  This was simple.  The filters capture up to 99.97% of microscopic allergens including pollen, dust, smoke, and pet dander.  Pet dander is what my husband suffers from the most so having this capture those allergens is fabulous.   There are also odor-absorbing pre-filters which help to eliminate odors in your home.Once the filters are installed and the grille cover is back on, find a place in your home at least 3 feet from wall or furniture.  Honeywell states this purifier works in rooms up to 177 square feet.  Operation works with knob controls on the top of the tower which includes three fan-cleaning settings (low, medium and high.)  The high setting is significantly loud but nothing to drastic.  We have been running this for 24 hours a day for continuous cleaning of the air in our home.  My husband states he seems to breathe a bit easier in our living room in the evenings and I can tell he isn’t coughing as much in the middle of the evening.

I like that there are lights to tell when it is time to replace the filters; the True-HEPA should be replaced every 12 months and the odor absorbing every 3 months.  The lights will illuminate when it is time.

• Gotcha!-Mold can hide out throughout the home. If your home smells moldy look at dry wall, wallpaper, or paneling, the top side of ceiling tiles, the underside of carpets, inside walls around pipes, inside ductwork, and in roof materials above ceiling tiles. But consider the help of a professional when investigating so not to release spores and make the problem worse!

• Clean Air Tip-Have your heating ducts cleaned before you turn on your heat for the first time. Dust can easily accumulate in heating ducts and be forced out into the air in your home.

• Spring Cleaning-When cleaning your air purifier, use only a dry cloth to wipe the external surfaces of the air purifier. Do not use water, wax polish, or any chemical solution as it could damage the unit.

• Improve the “ahh” factor in your home-Even if you keep a clean house, dust has a way of finding its way into the home and collecting as soon as you wipe your furniture and countertops clean. • Home Sweet Home-When the weather permits and pollen counts are low, open up the windows and doors in your home to let fresh air in and allow it to circulate in the room.
