Fire safety is something we talk to our children about monthly. When my husband was 12, their family lost everything from a house fire. What they didn’t lose was important documents such as birth certificates, social security cards, precious baby photos and other important documents which were stored in a fireproof safe. Having a fireproof safe in your home to store such documents can be a lifesaver should the unthinkable happen. Luckily for my husband and family, nobody was home at the time of their electrical fire, which resulted in complete loss of their home.
Since buying our first home in 2001, we have had a fireproof safe in our home. I recently had the opportunity to check out the SFW123CS SentrySafe. This combination fire-safe is a fabulous safe that would be a great gift for college students, business owner and families.
I knew the moment this arrived it was a heavy-duty safe, as it arrives in a large box and is extremely heavy. It includes a mechanical combination lock, big bolts plus multi-position shelf, door tray and door pocket storage. Although, I can’t verify features such as 1-hour proven fire protection up to 1700° F, water-resistance in up to 8″ of water for up to 24 hours and 15 foot drop test, these features keep me rest assured my personal documents will be safe in case of a house fire or flooding.
The combination is unlocked by rotating right 3x, left 2x and once to the right for the last number. The handle than rotates down to open the door. To lock, just pull the handle up and turn the dial.
This safe protects my documents, money, jewelry, photo CD’s and much more while home or traveling. Since receiving I’ve filled it with all documents I know need to be in a safe spot and there is still much room for more valuables. Due to the weight, I also feel assured if anyone should break in, they won’t be taking off with this, it is just too bulky to carry. We will be bolting to our floor for additional security.
