Now that winter is in full force many are trying to keep the kids occupied. There is no need to stay indoors, get out and keep the kids active. We are outdoors a lot here in Western NY, unless temperatures are too frigid to allow it. There is so much to do in the winter, so dress warm, get out and have some fun with your kids in the snow! We are gearing up for our yearly I.C.E. Festival during President’s Day weekend. Check your local attractions as well to see what cool things are in your area.
- Make a snowman
- Build a fort or igloo. We love building with our Flexible Flyer Snow Block Maker
however sand toys work just as well.
- Make snow angels
- Have a snowball fight
- Look for animal prints in the snow (fun if you live in the country)
- Go sledding or tubing
- Examine snowflakes with a magnifying glass
- Paint the snow. Using spray bottles, fill with cold water, add a few drops of food coloring and let the kids use their creativity to paint in the snow!
- Pin the nose on the snowman. Build a kid-sized snowman, give the kids a carrot, blindfold them and see who gets closest to where the nose should be
- Go ice skating
- Go skiing/snowboarding
- Play freeze tag. Perfect when it is chilly. Parents you chase your kids. Once they are tagged, they must freeze! This is fun for the entire family.
- Have a dog? Go for a winter walk as a family
- Make maple snow candy
- Catch snowflakes
- Go on a scavenger hunt. You could add things such as find an icicle, animal tracks, sticks, pine cones, rocks and live animals to name a few.
- Make snow ice cream. This is on our list to do. Paula Deen has an easy tutorial.
- Make snow animals
- Make a snow mountain
- Have an ice fisherman in the family? Allow the kids to go along!
- Make a campfire in the snow and roast marshmallows
- Play with Shredz snowboarding action figures
- Pick up a kids snow shovel
and let this kids shovel the walk or make paths in the yard
- Snow drawings. Kids of any age enjoy drawing happy faces, hearts and shapes in the snow with sticks.
- Make ice balloons
Come indoors and enjoy a hot cup of cocoa. What is your child’s favorite winter snow activity?

Maple snow candy is so fun! I never heard of snow ice cream before but that sounds fun too!
We’re gonna have to try that snow ice cream the next time it snows over our way. We got a few inches a couple of weeks back, but it’s pretty much melted by this point. Oh, and my boys each got one of those ice brick makers for Christmas. I found them at Target for $2 apiece and I swear it was their favorite xmas gift. They were out there for HOURS using them and ended up building a pretty nice looking snow fort!
Aw man, I would love to do any kind of activity in the snow!
I personally love making snow angels myself.
