Got Milk? Magic Milk Straws Review

When both of my children were ready to drink cow’s milk, we had some challenges. Both kids refused to drink it, gagging then spitting it out. I ultimately decided to try to gradually prepare them for it, still to no avail. I talked to my pediatrician who continued to say try, unfortunately, they never drank it. I did what I probably shouldn’t have done and added flavoring to their milk. I knew by doing this, I was adding unnecessary sugar to my kids sippy cups (they were both off the bottle at early ages) however I wanted my kids to have the calcium milk provides for strong bones and teeth. My son loved strawberry milk and Zoe chocolate milk. Just by adding a bit of flavoring I was okay knowing they were getting essential nutrients. Unfortunately, neither of my kids still like white milk, so we still add flavoring.

Now, my kids can get tasty flavored milk in an easy and fun way with Got Milk? Magic Milk Straws. Magic Milk Straws look like a clear straw, with colored beads inside the straw, which has pinched ends so they do not escape.

There are 5 delicious Magic Milk Straw flavors; chocolate, cookies & cream, strawberry, vanilla milkshake plus seasonal flavors, making a total of 13 flavors. The kids have enjoyed most of the flavors we were sent, Gavyn loving the cinnamon roll, Zoe adoring the strawberry banana. We were sent cookies & cream, strawberry banana and two seasonal flavors, wild berry and cinnamon roll. Each straw only provides an additional 16-17 calories and only 4 grams of sugar, which is much less than other flavored powdered or syrups we have all used. The magic beads never leave the straw. Just pour your child a glass of milk, put the straw in and watch your kids sip to explore the flavors.

The magic beads dissolve as children drink, but will last an entire glass (8 ounce). Do not reuse the straws. These have been beneficial for us, especially Zoe who will buy school lunch a couple times a week, but dislikes school milk. Now I can conveniently place a straw in her backpack to enjoy flavored milk at school. They do not require refrigeration, so can come along anywhere. If you have kids that like white milk, these would be a fun treat for them. Magic Milk Flavoring Straws contain no artificial colors or flavors, no preservatives and are gluten-free.

Unfortunately, I don’t like the ingredient label, so these have not been used daily in our home. The first ingredients are sugar, glucose syrup and dextrose. Sugar, sugar and more sugar. While the beads are all sugar and flavoring, they do only add 4 grams of carbs/sugars to an 8 ounce glass of milk. Some of the flavors were not liked by my kids especially the cookies & cream which both said tasted like coffee. I agree, that this was not a good flavor. The others were OK, just a bit too sweet for my liking. Fun for kids? Absolutely. Easy for kids to use? Yep, although children need to sip stronger, than using a normal straw.

Overall, these are a nice treat for kids who enjoy flavored milks with many flavors to suit the needs of all kids. They are mess-free and a healthier choice than other flavored milk products.

Comments

  1. Emma would love this! She is a chocolate milk addict, and it’s not easy getting her to drink plain ol’ milk.

  2. You had me at cookies & cream!! Seriously, my boys would LOVE these, so I have to look for them the next time I am out.

  3. Bummer that not all the flavors were a win and that there’s quite a bit of sugar, because the concept rocks!

  4. I’ve seen these at the store and they are such a fun idea–I would have loved them when I was a kid! But yeah, they’re probably best as a once-in-a-while treat. :)
