Family movie night is one of my favorite nights of the week. The devices get turned off, the futon mattress comes down to the living room and we watch a family friendly movie with the children. Last weekend it was time to watch Monsters University.
Mike Wazowski (voice of Billy Crystal) steps foot at his new home, Monsters University, with dreams of becoming a scarer.
While at the university he meets others with the same interests including James P. “Sulley” Sullivan (voice of John Goodman). Sulley comes from a family of scarers so feels he has all the abilities to become the top scarer. The two clash quite often as Mike wants to show everyone he will be the best, he’s confident he’ll become the top scarer.
Always studying to achieve his dreams, unfortunately the rivalry between the two get them both kicked out of scare school from Dean Hardscrabble.
Mike remembers the scare games poster deciding to enter the scare games but realizes he is short a team member, Sulley joins the team with Mike and Oozma Kappa fraternity. With many challenges to earn their way back into scare school, they know they have to win. In the final rounds of the scare games, they have to prove they can become a scarer by producing the most scream energy. Sulley cheats to help Mike out as he doesn’t feel he is scary enough. Mike wants to prove he is capable of being a scarer, so breaks into the door into the human world, where Sulley follows to look for him. Will they be trapped in the human world or will Mike and Sulley find a way to get back to their world, the monster world?
Teamwork is the only way they are going to get out, so they work together.
They generated enough scream energy to power the door, terrifying everyone, so they are able to return to the lab. Mike and Sulley then begin to work and Monsters, Inc in the mailroom, working their way up the ladder eventually becoming a part of the Scarer Team. This is the events of Monsters, Inc!
We really enjoyed the film. There was many laughs from the kids and adults. Four children were here watching age 11 and under and all of them loved the film. We’ve all waited for this day to watch and it arrived, we were not disappointed. Watching the prequel and getting to see exactly how Monsters, Inc came about. There are many new characters from the university some rather odd.
That being said, the animations are impressive!
Highly recommend watching Monsters, University to know exactly how the two that once disliked one another became best of friends.
