Our family doesn’t go on long distance trips often, but we do travel in our beautiful state of NY and surrounding areas almost every weekend. This weekend we took a two hour journey to Letchworth State Park checking out three beautiful waterfalls, gorgeous scenery and getting our move on by walking the trails. Letchworth is known as the Grand Canyon of the East, absolutely breathtaking views (more pictures to come, stay tuned.)
The weekend before we took an hour trip to Allegany State Park, spending the entire day there with our friends.
Erie and Northwest PA is in our travels often as is Buffalo, NY. We like to keep our vacation original, not something most families do such as going to Disney, amusement parks and the beach. We like to explore nature!
Travel can be a boring thing for young children. I have two ages 11 & 7 and constantly here the famous words, “are we there yet?” To keep my children occupied on long car drives I always pack up travel bags that include a deck of cards, coloring books and crayons, Nintendo DS, tablets, paper with pencils and reading books.
Our trip over the weekend the kids enjoyed checking out items from our Alamo Drive Happy box that the wonderful Jenn from The Rebel Chick sent us. This package includes fabulous items to make those long trips less boring.
Here are a few must-have travel items for your next family vacation or road trip. There is something for everyone!
Kindle Paperwhite: If you have a child that loves to read, then the Kindle Paperwhite is the best electronic reading device for them. The display is bright and clear, it reads like a book and the battery will last an entire car ride and more as the charge can last up to 8 weeks! The Kindle Paperwhite is ideal for children as they can build their vocabulary with the built in dictionary. Zoe has already downloaded books to read and organizes her library daily. Also, download Kindle active games such as word searches, card games, board games and more for the kids to have even more fun while traveling.
ALEX Toys Duct Tape Tote: Before heading out create a fun tote bag to store all the travel items in or treasures you all find on your trip. The ALEX Toys Duct Tape tote is fabulous allowing children to customize the tote bag to their liking easily with fashionable duct tape. Zoe hasn’t finished her tote yet and refuses to let me see it until she is finished, so I’m excited to see the finished product. She has been ripping tape and using the included stencils in her bedroom to design this bag. A fun project to get the children excited about an upcoming trip.
Crayola Color Wonder Mini Stow & Go: This mini coloring studio is the ideal travel companion for younger children as the color markers only work on color wonder paper. Markers look clear until children color or draw on the included paper, then magic happens; the marker colors appear! This is wonderful to have in the car as children won’t make a mess on themselves, clothing or the inside of the vehicle. Also, has a portable writing surface and storage, making it a must-have travel item for children.
Polaroid Instant Camera: My parents had a Polaroid camera when I was growing up. I waited in anticipation for the image to appear on the film when it came out of the camera. Now you and your entire family can snap memories on the Polaroid Instant Camera. This camera takes small business card sized photos but when your trip is over a fun collage can be made. Instant pictures made in a flash! Plus the children can see how we once loaded film into a camera since they are so used to watching up download onto the computer by removing our SD cards. A fun camera that is sure to be a hit on your next family vacation or outing.
Chamilia Solid Bangle: Add beads and charms to the Chamilia bangle bracelet. Heading to a beach vacation? Add a seahorse, shell or pail & bucket charm. Visiting Disney and have a little girl? Add her favorite Disney Princesses. This bracelet is beautiful and a perfect way to capture the most memorable moments of your family travels.
