Have I ever told you how much of an amazing husband I have? He’s strong, determined, patient and caring. He sets a good example to our son and daughter of what a man should be.
He makes time for the kids even with his crazy work hours.
When our son was born and almost passed away, it was a very trying time in our lives. My husband had to make the choice to travel back and forth 60 miles one way to work to continue supporting us. He had to be to work at 6am Monday-Friday and worked until 5pm or later. Once worked finished he made that 1 hour and 15 minute trip to the hospital, then back home to work…every single day.
He was there for our son when I was severely depressed. He was there when our daughter was born 4 weeks early. He has been there every single step of the way.
He had uncertainties he would ever be a good father, but everything he does proves what an amazing dad our children have.
So what exactly makes a great dad? There really isn’t a definitive answer here but here is what makes my husband a great dad.
- He’s never absent unless at work
- Has patience (most of the time)
- Experiences those big moments in our children’s lives
- He helps with school projects
- Attends school events
- Reads books
- Changed diapers
- Fed them once I quit breastfeeding
- Plays with them
- Shows compassion
- Models good behavior
- Believes in them
- Loves unconditionally
- Respects and loves their mother (that would be me).
He is the perfect role model to them.
To my children and me, he is the best dad anyone could ever ask for. And this Father’s Day and every day throughout the year, he knows that he is loved and cherished.
So for all the dad’s out there. Be all that you can be to your children, let them know you care, love and protect them. Always put them first, show respect to them and their mom. Because you are dad and your children look up to you. Set that good example because your kids need you, you are their hero.
Hope all you dads have the best Father’s Day ever!
