It’s that time of year. The kids have headed back to school and boom, they come home with a cough and sniffles. There are so many children, that one little virus can spread like crazy. That’s all we need is one child to have something, and it spreads like wildfire. School-aged kids get around eight to 12 colds per year and they can last anywhere from 6 days to two weeks. Unfortunately, I’m dealing with it right now with my 2nd grader, which makes me nervous with the new EV-D68 virus that has just been confirmed in my state of New York not to mention cold season which is considered to last from September to April. Of course, that coincides with school…sigh.
As much as I’d like to shield my child 24 hours a day, seven days a week, I can’t. I can only enforce proper hygiene such as washing hands, not to share, avoiding touching the face, mouth, and nose and to disinfect my home like crazy.
With Zoe home from school due to a runny nose, cough and sneezing, I’m doing everything I can to get her better. We are filling up on nutrient rich fruits and vegetables, drinking lots of water, resting and taking cough & cold medicine to ease her cold symptoms. As parents we KNOW taking medicine isn’t the easiest thing, it tastes awful! 40% of parents of school-aged children agree that taking over-the-counter medicine isn’t easy due to taste but there is a new option; Dr. Cocoa for Children!
