Campfire Cookies are one of those desserts that are fun to make even if you aren’t going camping! I love finding recipes where the kids can get creative, have fun and most of all make memories! And what better way to make Summer memories then making Campfire Cookies?
One of the reasons I also love this recipe is because you can be flexible when it comes to the cookies and the frosting. You can either use store bought or you can make your own. You can also use any brand of gummies that you like. I think once you make these with the kids, these will become a repeat Summer recipe!
Now before we get to what supplies are needed, my tip is get prepare the needed supplies a few days before you are thinking of doing this craft! We all know how crazy Summer time is and the thought of dragging the kids to the store, only to find out that the store is OUT of what you need is soooo frustrating! That means dragging them to another store! Sometimes there just isn’t time in a day to deal with that! That is why I am loving our new Amazon Prime membership! Things can be here within two days! In some cases we’ve had stuff show up the NEXT day depending on where the seller’s warehouse is located! Amazon Prime just makes life so much easier! No loading up the kids, dealing with the crowds and hearing, “she’s touching me”, “MOM tell her to stop”, “MOM are we done?”, “MOM I spilled my water”, “MOM close the window it’s messing up my hair”, “MOOOOOOMMMMM!” I know you can relate! That’s why if you don’t have Prime yet, you really should consider it! Did you know that you can try Prime for free for 30 days??? How to Make Campfire Cookies
1 package store bought Sugar Cookies OR make Sugar cookies from a mix
1 container White Frosting
1 package Gummy Bears
1 package Whoppers Candy or other malted candy.
1 package Tootsie Rolls
1 package Mini Pretzel Sticks
If you are using a sugar cookie mix, follow the directions and bake accordingly.
In a small bowl, add the frosting and mix in the green food coloring a little at a time. (Remember you can add MORE but you can’t SUBTRACT food coloring). Mix together until you find the right color consistency you are looking for. Then spread the frosting onto the cookies.
Using a sharp knife, cut knife marks lengthwise into the tootsie rolls so they resemble logs. Cut the gummy bears into 3 pieces and dice the whoppers into small pieces.
Next sprinkle some whopper pieces onto the middle of the cookies. Then take 3 tootsie rolls and lay around the whopper pieces in the shape of a triangle. Place some of the gummy bear pieces inside the triangle of tootsie rolls to resemble fire flames. Poke a pretzel stick into a marshmallow but not through it. It will look like a roasting marshmallow on a stick. Repeat this for as many as you need.
Place 3 of the marshmallow sticks on each cookie in a pyramid shape over the campfire, making sure the marshmallows touch at the top.
An optional step: Take a lighter and run it over the marshmallows to give them a roasted look!
These are super cute and it’s a yummy and fun treat for Summer parties!
