This past Friday we had our typical family night with homemade pizza, Wii playing and two movies. We received Disney The Jungle Book 2 for review, which we had never seen before. The kids were both excited as they really enjoyed The Jungle Book movie.
Experience the wonder of this timeless tale as you reunite with your favorite characters and meet new friends. Disney’s beloved movie classic continues in this new digital master of The Jungle Book 2 – on Blu-ray for the first time, and wilder than ever in breathtaking high definition!
Now that Mowgli’s living in the “man-village,” he cherishes his new best friend and little brother, but he still has that jungle rhythm in his heart. He misses hanging out with happy-go-lucky Baloo the bear and Bagheera the panther. Yearning for freedom, Mowgli runs off into the jungle – and encounters his enemy Shere Khan! This time, he’ll need both his new human family and his old jungle friends to help save the day.
I review from a kids point-of-view here and try not to read up on reviews, but The Jungle Book 2 received some poor criticism. This is not the original, any film is really challenging to top an original, however I feel Haley Joel Osment played the voice of Mowgli well. John Goodman had many great moments but he is not Phil Harris. Baloo was still great though. The voice overs in my opinion were well done.
The movie is cute and children are going to like it. Jungle Rhythm had Zoe dancing while the song was playing during the movie. Basically, Mowgli is punished to his bedroom for disobeying his father and crossing the river to go into the jungle, which he knows is a very dangerous place, but he misses his jungle friends.
Baloo shows up at the village, this excites Mowgli. Mowgli and Baloo play but when Shanti shows up to apologize for him getting in trouble, she sees them together screaming, wild animal in the village. Baloo and Mowgli take off.
Trouble ensues for the village when they run into Shere Khan. Shanti tries to run after Mowgli with Ranjan right behind her.
Shere Khan wants to seek revenge on Mowgli and is also looking for him. Baloo tries to keep him hidden from the jungle animals. Mowgli realizes the village is looking for him, when he thought they were mad at him. Mowgli really begins to miss his family when Shanti and Ranjan find him. Baloo isn’t thrilled about this and turns scary- for a moment.
Will Mowgli stay in the jungle with his jungle friends or go back to the village?
Though the movie doesn’t have many laugh-out-loud scenes and there is some violence, the kids will enjoy it. If you are a big fan of The Jungle Book you will probably be disappointed. The animation of the film was well done. So, a great movie to sit and watch with the entire family on family movie night with a few laughs and cute characters. And knowing the reviews this got, it isn’t terrible. I’m a mom of 2 and try not to put too much into them, all that matters to me is my kids enjoyed the film, and that they did.
The Jungle Book 2 is available for purchase on Amazon.
