Holiday gift buying for kids is easy – just go to the local toy store, grab the season’s hottest item and you’re set – right? I used to think so, until I noticed something when clearing out my kids’ own toys of Christmas past to make room for the new.
By far, the vast majority of toys, accessories and other items my kids still used and loved were the things personalized with their names or initials, not those trendy items given with all good intentions. These were the things they played with, displayed proudly in their rooms, kept in an extra special place on the shelf, and even took to school for show and tell. Why hadn’t I noticed that before? It’s fun to see the delight children have when opening gifts but why not make that feeling last?
With a long list of nieces, nephews and my own children to buy for this year, I wanted to do just that. So my goal for the holidays was to find the best personalized children’s gifts of 2013.
If you have a little fashionista on your list who likes to get outdoors, check out these adorable pink personalized UGG boots. She’ll be stylish and warm all year long, with her own personal flare. I found these at www.NiemanMarcus.com and couldn’t resist them for my older daughter.
If you have a kiddo on your list like my younger daughter, who needs something a bit more fun and interactive, check out the “Design a Custom Barbie Doll” page at http://shop.mattel.com. Here she can go online, chose her doll’s “look” – 3 custom outfits, including a doll-sized t-shirt personalized with her name. You could treat it like an online game and imagine her surprise when the doll she customized shows up under the tree!
As for the boys, if you have a superhero in the making on your list, you’re in luck. Check out www.everfan.com. Seriously, go there and look. Here you can choose and personalize your very own superhero outfit – cape, mask and power armbands. Choose from a number of symbols for their personal emblem, or even choose a letter. You’re little superhero will be on call to save the day all year long.
For readers, I was quickly drawn to www.identitydirect.com. They offer Disney Princess, Dora The Explorer, Spiderman, and Toy Story books – all the books and character kids love today. However, these folks will incorporate your child into the story. Your kiddo becomes the star of the tale, appearing alongside their favorite characters. Birthdays, address and even friends’ names are included in the storyline as well.
Of course, personalized gifts can be a little more pricy than other items, but not only are they more valuable to the recipient, now they can find new homes once your child has outgrown them physically or emotionally.
My last recommendation is a Christmas gift to you, mom and dad. Check out www.LollyDaisy.com. The only site dedicated to helping people buy and sell new and very gently used personalized and monogrammed kids items, LollyDaisy helps you get a return on your investment.
I started this site recently (it goes live for buyers on Dec. 26 of this year) as a way to help find new homes for those special treasures, and help others find those items at prices they may not otherwise afford. We even have a search feature that allows you to get email alerts when someone posts an item with the name or initials you’re looking for. While you can’t buy items there this Christmas, if you have things you know you’d like to sell now, stop by LollyDaisy and list them for the best chance to make back your investment right after Christmas. And don’t forget to bookmark it for Valentine’s Day, birthdays, and next Christmas as you never know what treasure you’ll find. We’re adding new stuff every day, including new items from overstock and returns from wholesalers.
Happy Holidays everyone!
