Trying to figure out what baby supplies you need before baby arrives can be a huge headache. Depending on how much time you’ve spent with infants before your pregnancy, you may have no clue what you really need. Or you may have too many ideas you don’t know where to start!
Before my first child was born, I relied on Pinterest boards and friends’ recommendations for all of the must-have baby items. The Pinterest boards weren’t all that helpful, but my friends sure were. They gave great tips on what products I really needed and which ones to skip.
So what are some of those must-have items to stock up on before baby is born? Here’s my top 3 list:
- Bibs and burp rags galore!
Both of my kids have been major “spitters.” They both spewed milk after every feeding, spreading it over my hair, the couch and both of our clothes. For this reason, burp rags and bibs are #1 on my list. I go through almost one burp rag per feeding STILL with a 4 month old. Bibs are great because they catch the spit-up before it gets onto the baby’s outfit. This is especially important when you’re trying to run out the door to daycare and don’t have time to change outfits three times! I love the Copper Pearl bandana bibs – they come in so many cute colors and patterns to go along with adorable baby outfits!
When it comes to bottle feeding, every baby is different. Some babies only want to drink straight from the tap, others are particular about which type of bottle, and others will drink whatever you give them. You never know which your baby will be until you start trying bottles. My best advice? Buy 2-3 (or more!) different types of bottles and no more than 1-2 of each type. Once you know what kind your baby likes, stock up! With my first, we went with the Playtex Drop-in bottles for easy cleaning. My second baby isn’t a huge fan of Playtex bottles, so we tried the new Comotomo breast-like bottles. She is so much better with those, so I’m in the stock-up process now!
- Feeding accessories for older infants and toddlers
When preparing for a baby, it’s easy to focus on what items you’ll need those first six months. But don’t forget about all of the things you’ll need those next six months (and beyond). Register for sippy cups, plates and bowls, spoons, toddler bibs, placemats, etc. It’s nice to have them ahead of time! My favorites are the Boon sippy cup covers (turn any cup into a baby-proof drink!) and the feeding spoon (easy cleanup!). I also am a big fan of the toddler placemats and bibs, and I have extras I can keep in the diaper bag for meals out.
A few of my other must-have baby items are things you’ll find on those Pinterest boards, but they’re worth mentioning anyways: Crib sheets (lots! so you can swap them out when they are spit-up on or peed on), sleep sacks, diapers, and lots of items for the new momma (nipple cream, nursing bra, water bottle, snacks, etc.). For all of these items, check out The Baby Cubby, a website where you can order just about anything you need for your little bundle of joy!
