“Not So Scary Monsters” is how my youngest described these cupcakes and that is how the name of the cupcakes came to be. Once we get older, we realize that a lot of things in life are make believe. At 6, she still believes in princesses, pixie dust, fun and sweet dreams. When she sees something “scary” for Halloween, she doesn’t understand it’s made up.
I actually made the mistake recently to go into a Halloween store with both of my kids trying to find some ideas for their Halloween costumes. Needless to say, we were in the store for maybe 5 minutes before I was carrying my youngest out in tears. I get the scary music in the adult, teen sections but the kids? Really? I contacted that store about it so I’m looking forward to their reply. Dressing up as your favorite character, eating yummy (non-scary) foods and having fun with your classmates is what having fun at Halloween is all it’s about. Not be scared to tears when looking at a Shopkins costume.
So for all of those little ones, here is a yummy recipe for Not So Scary Halloween Monster Cupcakes!
– Prepared Chocolate Cupcakes, unfrosted (you can make your own from a prepared cupcake mix or pick up some from your local store)
– 1 Can Vanilla Frosting
– Food Coloring—orange, purple, green
– Tacky Glue
– Googly Eyes, multi-colored
– Plastic Vampire Teeth
*This recipe shows six cupcakes. You will have enough supplies to make 24 cupcakes. I would suggest buying an additional tube of frosting.
1. Take 12 toothpicks and glue a googly eye to each one, making sure to glue it on
the non-pointy end at the top.
5. Cut the vampire teeth in half, and lay one each on the top front of the cupcakes
to look like monster teeth.
